Water Pumps
Flotec offers water systems for your well water and pressure needs.
Product Summary
Construction and Materials
Flotec is a brand that offers a range of plumbing supplies, specializing in water pumps, pumps & tanks, drainage solutions, and septic systems. Their products are designed to address various fluid management needs in residential, commercial, and agricultural settings.
The construction of Flotec products typically involves durable materials engineered for reliable performance in demanding environments. Common materials used across their product lines include:
- Cast Iron: Often utilized for pump housings and impellers, particularly in heavy-duty sump pumps and sewage ejector pumps. Cast iron provides excellent durability, corrosion resistance, and structural integrity, making it suitable for submersible applications.
- Stainless Steel: Frequently incorporated for critical components such as shafts, fasteners, and strainers. Stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance, especially in the presence of water and various fluids, and contributes to the longevity of the product.
- Thermoplastics (e.g., ABS, Polypropylene): Commonly used for pump bodies, impellers, and float switches in lighter-duty applications like utility pumps and smaller sump pumps. These materials are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and cost-effective.
- Neoprene and Buna-N: Often found in seals, gaskets, and diaphragms. These elastomeric materials are chosen for their resistance to water, chemicals, and wear, ensuring a leak-free and efficient operation of the pumps.
The construction techniques employed by Flotec focus on creating robust and efficient pumping solutions. For their water pumps, this includes:
- Submersible Designs: Many of their sump pumps and sewage pumps feature fully submersible construction. The motor is sealed within the pump housing, protecting it from the fluid it is pumping and allowing for quiet operation.
- Engineered Impellers: Impellers are designed to optimize fluid flow and handle various debris sizes, depending on the pump's intended application. This can include solids-handling impellers for sewage pumps or high-efficiency impellers for water transfer pumps.
- Durable Motor Construction: Motors are typically oil-filled or sealed, designed for continuous duty and heat dissipation.
- Integrated Controls: Float switches are often integrated to automate pump operation, turning the pump on when water levels rise and off when they fall.
Flotec's drainage and septic system components are also constructed with durability and functionality in mind:
- Corrosion-Resistant Tanks: Septic tanks may be constructed from materials like polyethylene or fiberglass, offering resistance to soil conditions and waste decomposition byproducts.
- Perforated Drains: Drainage pipes and leach field components are typically made from durable plastics designed to withstand burial and the elements.
