Construction and Materials
M-D Building Products offers a range of Door Components designed to enhance the functionality and durability of your doors. These components include thresholds, weatherstrip, and push & kick plates, all manufactured with quality and performance in mind.
The construction of M-D Building Products' door components prioritizes both efficacy and longevity. Thresholds are engineered to create a seal between the bottom of the door and the floor, preventing drafts, water infiltration, and debris from entering the interior. Weatherstrip is designed to fit snugly into the door frame and along the door's edges, further improving insulation and weather resistance.
Push and kick plates are constructed to protect the lower portion of the door from wear and tear caused by frequent use. Their robust design ensures they can withstand repeated impacts, extending the life of the door itself.
The materials utilized in M-D Building Products' door components are selected for their resilience and suitability for outdoor or high-traffic environments. Common materials include:
- Aluminum: A lightweight yet strong metal, often used for thresholds and kick plates due to its corrosion resistance and durability.
- Vinyl: A flexible and weather-resistant material, frequently employed in weatherstrip for its sealing capabilities and ease of installation.
- Rubber: Used for its excellent sealing properties and shock absorption, often found in weatherstrip and some threshold applications.
- Steel: A strong and durable material, sometimes used for heavier-duty kick plates and thresholds requiring maximum impact resistance.
The specific combination of materials and construction techniques will vary depending on the individual product within the Door Components category, ensuring optimal performance for each application.

M-D Building Products offers a range of style options for their door components, primarily focusing on functionality and durability while providing a clean, professional appearance. The available styles are designed to complement various door types and architectural aesthetics.
The core of their offerings in thresholds and weatherstrip focuses on materials and finishes that ensure longevity and resistance to the elements. While specific design-focused styles like ornate carvings are not a primary feature, the emphasis is on a streamlined and practical look.
For thresholds, the style options are often dictated by the material and its intended application:
- Aluminum Thresholds: These typically come in a natural aluminum finish, offering a sleek, industrial, or modern look. Some may have a brushed finish for a slightly softer appearance.
- Bronze Thresholds: Providing a warmer, more traditional aesthetic, bronze thresholds offer a classic and enduring style suitable for a variety of building exteriors.
- Composite/Vinyl Thresholds: These are often designed to mimic the look of wood or other materials, offering versatility in style. They may come in neutral colors to blend seamlessly with different door frames and flooring.
- Adjustable Thresholds: While the primary style feature is their adjustability for a tight seal, the visible aspect is typically a clean, functional design in metal or composite materials.
Weatherstrip styles are similarly geared towards effective sealing and unobtrusive integration:
- V-Strips/Leaf Seals: These are designed for minimal visual impact, often made of spring-like metal or flexible vinyl that sits flush against the door and frame when closed.
- Door Sweeps: Available in various materials like aluminum or vinyl with brush or rubber inserts, these are designed to be practical and blend with the bottom of the door. Styles can range from simple metal strips to those with more substantial sealing elements.
- Interlocking Seals: These systems, often used on patio doors, are designed for maximum weather protection and have a functional, interlocking profile that becomes part of the door's seal system.
Push and kick plates offer a more visible stylistic element:
- Material Finishes: Common finishes include polished brass, brushed nickel, stainless steel, and various anodized aluminum options. These finishes allow for coordination with existing door hardware and architectural styles, from contemporary to traditional.
- Shape and Size: While generally rectangular, the proportions and edge treatments (e.g., square edges, beveled edges) can offer subtle variations in style. The size of the plate itself also influences its visual presence.
Overall, M-D Building Products emphasizes styles that are characterized by their robustness, ease of installation, and ability to provide an effective seal, all while maintaining a clean and professional appearance suitable for residential and commercial applications.
